Lyantonde is a town in southern Central Region, Uganda" Central Uganda. It is the main municipal, administrative and commercial center of Lyantonde District. The district is named after the town.
LOCATION
Lyantonde is located approximately 75 kilometres (47 mi), by road, west of Masaka, the nearest large city, on the all-weather highway between Masaka and Mbarara. The coordinates of the town are: 00 24 25S, 31 09 27E (Latitude:-0.4070; Longitude: 31.1575).
Lyantonde lies on the way to most of the Nationally Gazetted Game parks that are in western Uganda. (See Map 3)
POPULATION
In 2002, the national population census estimated the population of the town to be 7,900. In 2011, it is estimated that for a radius of 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) from the center of town, the population totals approximately 22,300

ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES
Agriculture being the major source of livelihood for the population in Lyantonde District. A variety of crops are grown in the district, both for subsistence and economic purposes. The crops grown include:
Cattle are the main livestock kept by farmers in Lyantonde. It is estimated that there are 83,700 of cattle in the District. Other animals that are raised include
goats,
sheep,
pigs and
poultry
